Performance Appraisal is an ongoing series revising Ramírez's body of work through the lens of bureaucracy. The framework of a 'performance appraisal' implies Ramírez' ouvre is being measured, reviewed and valorised. In the event of re-showing a work that has undergone an appraisal—without the mechanisms that make it an appraisal—he simply retitles it as Dead Work with a number matching the appraisal.
In Performance Appraisal 4, Ramírez wrote a script to participate in a mediation with Stefa Panoschi curated by Thomas Stoddard. The crux of this fictional conflict was that Stefa made a coffin with a semblance to my own work (from my solo exhibition Signs of The Undead in 2019) and that a few years earlier Stefa had worked with me as a volunteer. In Enemies! at TCB Gallery, we showed our coffins next to one and another and sat in a corporate mis-en-scene hilariously arranged by Tom. Our scripts played with common quarrels in the arts: exploitation, gaslighting, youth envy and much more. An ongoing gag across the scripts was that we may, or may not be, real vampires.
The set up was installed and ideated by Thomas Stoddard, Stefa and I wrote our individual scrips with a vague knowledge of what we were going to say. We showed our individual coffins in the space, next to each other.
